Farming Simulator 22 Summer Crops Guide: What to Plant and Harvest

Other Games·April 22, 2024·14 min read

Summer in Farming Simulator 22 is not the busiest planting window, but it is still an important stretch for keeping income moving. June, July, and August are when several crops planted earlier become ready to harvest, and a couple of useful options can still be started before autumn takes over.

Summer in Farming Simulator 22

During summer, farmers can harvest crops such as wheat, barley, oat, and canola that were planted in the previous year. The season also gives players a chance to add a few more crops before the calendar shifts. The choices are limited compared with spring, but the right crop can still improve your return.

Canola

Canola is usually treated as a fall crop, but Farming Simulator 22 lets you begin planting it in August. Once it is harvested, canola can be sold directly, processed into canola oil at an oil mill for better value, or used as pig feed.

Canola Stats

  • Planting season: August to September
  • Seeds per ha: 200 l
  • Yield per ha: 5,800 l
  • Average selling price: $1,809
  • Growth duration: 11 months
  • Harvesting period: July to August

Canola Requirements

  • Tractor
  • Cultivator
  • Grain seeds
  • Seeder
  • Fertilizer
  • Fertilizer spreader
  • Lime
  • Weeder
  • Harvester with a grain header attachment
  • Trailer

How to Plant and Harvest Canola

  1. Cultivate the field with a cultivator.
  2. Fill a seeder with grain seeds.
  3. Attach the seeder to a tractor and seed the prepared field.
  4. Load fertilizer into a spreader and fertilize the field.
  5. Add lime with a spreader when needed.
  6. Remove weeds with a weeder if they appear.
  7. Harvest the mature crop with a harvester and grain header.
  8. Move the harvest into a trailer and sell it where the price is strongest.

Grapes

Grapes work differently from standard field crops. Instead of preparing a normal field first, buy grapevines from the in-game shop through the construction menu and place them on flat, open land. The setup takes space and equipment, but the yield makes grapes worth considering.

Grape Stats

  • Planting season: March to May
  • Seeds per ha: N/A
  • Yield per ha: 9,200 l
  • Average selling price: $1,809
  • Growth duration: 6 months
  • Harvesting period: September to October

Grape Requirements

  • Open space
  • Grape vines from the in-game shop
  • Tractor
  • Subsoiler
  • Mulcher
  • Liquid fertilizer
  • Fertilizer spreader
  • Grape harvester
  • Leaf cutter
  • Trailer

If money is tight, console commands can help you buy more vines or equipment. Use them carefully, unless your idea of farm management is simply becoming a vineyard tycoon overnight.

How to Plant and Harvest Grapes

  1. Place grape vines on suitable open land.
  2. Use a tractor and mulcher to mulch the ground.
  3. Cultivate between the vines with a subsoiler.
  4. Fill the spreader with liquid fertilizer and fertilize the vines.
  5. Harvest mature grapes with a grape harvester.
  6. Load the grapes into a trailer and sell them at the best available price.

Best Summer Crop Choice

Between canola and grapes, grapes are usually the better summer investment in Farming Simulator 22. Both crops share the same average selling price in this guide, but grapes produce a higher yield per hectare, giving them the stronger return when the required setup is available.
