Farming Simulator 22 Fall Crop Guide: Wheat, Barley, Canola, and Harvest Planning

Other Games·April 18, 2024·16 min read

Fall in Farming Simulator 22 is harvest season, but it is not only for collecting crops. Autumn also gives you a short planting window for several grains that can set up next year’s income.

This guide covers the fall season, available crops, planting requirements, harvest timing, and which autumn crop usually gives the best return.

Fall Season Overview

Fall runs from September through November in Farming Simulator 22. Trees turn brown or yellow, and many crops planted in spring are ready to harvest.

You can also plant specific grains during fall. The main fall crops are wheat, barley, and canola. Each one has different prices, yields, and harvest windows, so choose based on whether you want direct sale value, animal feed, or production-chain options.

Wheat

Wheat can be planted in fall and harvested the following summer. It can be sold directly, turned into flour at the grain mill, or used as feed for chickens and pigs.

Wheat Stats

  • Planting season: September to October
  • Seeds per ha: 500 l
  • Yield per ha: 8,900 l
  • Average selling price: $1,011
  • Growth duration: 10 months
  • Harvesting period: July to August

Barley

Barley is a friendly crop for new players because it is simple to grow and useful beyond direct selling. Like wheat, it can be processed into flour or used as feed for chickens and pigs.

Barley Stats

  • Planting season: September to October
  • Seeds per ha: 500 l
  • Yield per ha: 9,600 l
  • Average selling price: $939
  • Growth duration: 9 months
  • Harvesting period: June to July

Canola

Canola is often the strongest fall crop for profit. It can be sold after harvest, refined into canola oil at an oil mill, or used as pig feed.

Canola Stats

  • Planting season: August to September
  • Seeds per ha: 200 l
  • Yield per ha: 5,800 l
  • Average selling price: $1,809
  • Growth duration: 11 months
  • Harvesting period: July to August

Fall Crop Requirements

Wheat, barley, and canola use similar planting and harvesting workflows. You need:

  • Tractor
  • Cultivator
  • Grain seeds
  • Seeder
  • Fertilizer
  • Fertilizer spreader
  • Lime
  • Weeder
  • Harvester with a grain header attachment
  • Trailer

If you need money for equipment and have the right access, console commands can instantly add funds.

How to Plant and Harvest Fall Crops

Use this general process for wheat, barley, and canola:

  1. Cultivate the field with a cultivator.
  2. Load grain seeds into a seeder.
  3. Attach the seeder to a tractor and sow the field.
  4. Load fertilizer into a spreader and fertilize the crop.
  5. Load lime into a spreader and apply it to the field.
  6. Remove weeds with a weeder when needed.
  7. Harvest mature crops with a harvester using a grain header.
  8. Sell the grain to the best buyer or store it for a better price.

The source procedure mentions spreading lime over the soybean field, but for fall grains, apply lime to the field you are actively preparing.

Extra Fall Crop Tips

  • Place beehives near canola fields to improve yield.
  • Avoid speeding up time during cultivation because crops may grow unevenly.
  • Spread manure or slurry after fertilizer to double the fertilizer activation rate and improve yield.

Best Fall Crops

Canola is usually the best fall crop for profit. Its average selling price is higher than wheat or barley, and refining it into canola oil can improve return on investment.

Wheat is a reliable second choice. It is easy to grow and useful for flour or animal feed, but it usually sells for less than canola.

Barley is still useful, especially for beginners. It has inexpensive seed bags and a shorter growth duration than the other fall crops, though its sale price is the lowest of the three listed crops.
