Empyrion - Galactic Survival gives players broad freedom to design ships, bases, and vehicles, but every vessel still belongs to a specific category. The starter block you use determines whether you are building a Hover Vessel, Small Vessel, or Capital Vessel.

The three main vessel categories are Hover, Small, and Capital. Each serves a different purpose, from surface travel to nearby space exploration to full interstellar operations.

A Hover Vessel is a hovercraft designed for movement on a planet's surface. Before the Pre-Alpha 3.0.0 update, it was known as a Ground Vessel.
Hover Vessels are limited to planetary surfaces, but Empyrion's voxel-based building system still lets you begin constructing one almost anywhere, including in space.
Crafting a Hover Vessel starts with a Hover Vessel Starter. Requirements include:

A Small Vessel lets players explore a planet's atmosphere, nearby moons, and asteroids. Despite the name, Small Vessels can still hold weapons, ammunition, and multiple functional sections.
They are not strong enough for distant travel across the full universe, but they are useful for local exploration and combat.
Building a Small Vessel starts with a starter kit. The source requirements list a Capital Vessel Starter with the following materials:

A Capital Vessel is the ship type used for exploring the far reaches of the galaxy. It functions as both a spacecraft and a mobile base, making it the most ambitious vessel category.
Because of its size, a Capital Vessel needs more components than smaller vessel types. It requires a Generator, Fuel Tank, Cockpit, RCS, Gravity Generator, and Thrusters to operate. Players can also equip Warp Drives and Warp Drive Tanks.
Craft a Capital Vessel Starter with:
If reading about vessel types has you planning a new fleet, a dedicated Empyrion server from HolyHosting gives friends a shared place to build, test, and occasionally crash ships in ways that are definitely part of the design process.
