Dune Awakening Release Date, Editions, Platforms, and Planned Updates

Other Games·June 4, 2025·11 min read

Dune: Awakening brings Arrakis into an open-world survival MMO where thirst, heat, storms, factions, spice, and sandworms all compete to ruin your day. If you are planning to play at launch, the main details are the Steam release date, edition contents, platform plans, and what Funcom has outlined for future support.

Release Date, Platforms, and Editions

Dune: Awakening launches on Steam on June 10th. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions are planned, but no fixed console release date has been provided.

The Steam version is available in three editions: Standard, Deluxe, and Ultimate. Standard costs $49.99, Deluxe costs $69.99, and Ultimate costs $89.99. The Terrarium of Muad'Dib, Sunset Dye Global Swatch, and Advanced Access are pre-order bonuses across the listed editions where included. The edition split mainly comes down to cosmetics, early access timing, and whether you want the season pass bundled from the start.

Core Features

Dune: Awakening begins with your character as a prisoner. From there, the game pushes you into the wider struggle over Arrakis, including the secrets of the Fremen and the conflict between Atreides and Harkonnen. Building a reputation is part of the arc, but Arrakis does not hand out legends politely.

The main loop is built around survival, exploration, and discovery. Heat and thirst are constant threats, so shade, water, and good planning matter. Combat is also a major part of the experience, with ranged weapons, melee weapons, hostile enemies, sandstorms, and sandworms making the desert about as friendly as it looks.

Progress comes from searching the planet for materials, gear, caves, traders, technology, and better ways to travel. Ornithopters help with long-distance movement, which is useful because crossing Arrakis on foot sounds heroic until the worm music starts.

Character progression is flexible. Players choose a Great School of the Imperium, develop combat and utility skills, craft equipment, build structures, and customize vehicles. How you specialize shapes how you survive and how you contribute on a persistent multiplayer world.

Multiplayer is central to the game. Thousands of players can share the same online world, with PvP, co-op building, guilds, settlements, fortresses, and social play all part of the design. Friends can explore together, build together, or choose a side in the broader struggle while trying not to become sandworm scheduling conflicts.

Post-Launch Support

Dune: Awakening will not require a monthly subscription, and the June 10 launch is the 1.0 release rather than an early access launch.

The game is also planned for ongoing updates after release, so launch is not meant to be the finish line. Expected post-launch support includes:

  • Regular free updates with new content, features, and quality-of-life changes.
  • Optional DLCs.
  • Major free updates that expand the story and add new features.
  • A season pass containing all paid DLC.
