DayZ Badlands DLC: Release Window, Nasdara Map, Features, and Price Details

Other Games·July 10, 2025·8 min read

DayZ Badlands sends survivors into a harsh desert built around dunes, heat, scarce water, and the usual DayZ problem of other people being nearby. The expansion adds a new official map and several systems tied to desert survival.

DayZ Badlands release window and price

According to the game's Steam page, DayZ Badlands is planned for release sometime in 2026. Based on the release timing of the DayZ Frostline DLC, Badlands may arrive in the fourth quarter of 2026, though that is an estimate rather than a confirmed date.

The Badlands DLC is expected to cost under $25.

New Nasdara map

Nasdara is the new map included with Badlands. It is described as DayZ's largest official map, covering 267 km2 with desert terrain, sand, cacti, and other arid landmarks.

The map is located west of Chernarus in the fictional country of Takistan. Its dunes are tied to stories of past battles, but Nasdara is set during spring, so the environment is not completely lifeless.

Dynamic weather

Badlands will include dynamic weather on Nasdara. Specific mechanics have not been fully detailed yet, but the desert setting suggests hazards such as extreme heat or sandstorms could play a role.

If those conditions appear, players may need to manage shelter and route planning more carefully than usual.

New animals

The expansion adds wildlife suited to Nasdara's desert environment. Some animals will be hostile, adding another layer of danger beyond hunger, thirst, and the person watching you through binoculars.

The exact creature list has not been confirmed, but possible desert-themed examples include snakes, camels, scorpions, and gazelles.

New equipment and weapons

DayZ Badlands will add desert-themed clothing. These items are not only cosmetic, since some provide protection against the environment. For example, certain clothing may offer low cold resistance while being lighter than heavier gear such as body armor.

The DLC will also expand DayZ's weapon selection. Specific firearms have not been named at the time covered by this guide, but players can expect additions such as older-style rifle variants.

New vehicles

Badlands will include additional wheeled transportation for crossing Nasdara's sandy terrain. The developers have not confirmed the vehicle list yet.

Possible fits for the setting include dune buggies, quad bikes, and pickup trucks, but those remain speculation until officially detailed.

Rebuilding mechanics

Water management is expected to be central on Nasdara. Badlands introduces a rebuilding system where players reconstruct certain survival structures, including wells.

Rebuilding water sources should be important for long-term survival in the dry environment. In DayZ terms, a working well is not luxury. It is a reason to stop panicking for about six seconds.

Terrain blending improvements

When Badlands launches, all DayZ maps are planned to receive improved terrain blending. This should make environments look more natural and immersive.

The terrain changes may also affect gameplay by creating better natural cover for players trying to stay hidden from enemies.
