Conan Exiles Age of War began with Chapter 1, a large update that followed Age of Sorcery and shifted the game toward clan identity, treasure hoards, combat changes, and a long list of fixes. It was not a small patch. It arrived wearing armor and carrying paperwork.
Age of War is a three-chapter update series for Conan Exiles that followed Age of Sorcery. Chapter 1 introduced the first round of systems and rewards, including clan emblems, clan hoards, new challenges, Battle Pass items, Bazaar additions, balance changes, and bug fixes.

Conan Exiles Age of War Chapter 1 launched on June 22. The full Age of War release plan covered three chapters during 2023.
Chapter timing in Conan Exiles has varied before. Age of Sorcery Chapter 3 arrived a little over a month before Age of War Chapter 1, while the gap between Age of Sorcery Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 was closer to five months. Because of that, Chapters 2 and 3 were safest to expect later in 2023 rather than on a precise monthly cadence.
- PC server builds now use shipping configuration instead of test configuration. Servers must start with ConanSandboxServer-Win64-Shipping.exe instead of ConanSandboxServer-Win64-Test.exe.
- A persistent Connection lost issue was fixed.
- Console Log spam was reduced.
- General optimization, crash fixes, and cleanup were included.

- Several known exploits were fixed.
Clan Emblems allow clans to create a shared symbol using different images, colors, and backgrounds. The system uses a new Clan Totems workstation, where eligible clan members can design the emblem. Emblems can appear on wall banners, carpets, flag banners, shields, horse caparisons, armor, and other custom assets.
Clan Hoards let players collect treasure, bring it back to base, and display it. Treasure placeables inside the coffer radius contribute to personal and clan hoard totals, while treasures can also be placed directly into the chest near the Treasurer NPC. Interacting with the Treasurer NPC shows the hoard values. Heroic Treasures are found in the world and must be carried home manually instead of being placed in inventory.
New challenges were added for the Age of War systems:
- Apply a Clan Emblem
- Build a Coffer
- Place 3 Small Treasures
- Claim a Heroic Treasure
- Contribute to a Coffer value over 1000
- Contribute to a Coffer value over 5000
- Contribute to a Coffer value over 10000
The Chapter 1 Battle Pass added new pets, armor, emotes, horse caparisons, weapon emotes, and rewards focused on Stygian and Nordheimer lore, including the Stygian War Tent Set. Notable themes included the Stygian War Tent Set plus Nordheimer and Stygian armor styles. The Bazaar also expanded with similar categories, including pets, armor, emotes, horse caparisons, emblems, and weapon emotes.
New Twitch Drops began with the Midnight Caparison, with campaign timing shared through the Conan Exiles social channels. These drops were separate from the Battle Pass and Bazaar, giving players another route to collect themed cosmetics during the update cycle.

The update rebalanced several systems to make combat more tactical and dangerous while addressing concerns around Legendary weapons.
Item categories were updated to Unique, Epic, and Legendary. Legendary items are end-game drops that cannot be crafted. Epic items are end-game craftables such as Khari Steel, Hardened Steel, Venomsteel, and Star Metal. Unique items are best-in-tier for their material tier but do not surpass Epic or Legendary gear. Journeys that formerly required crafting Legendary items now require Epic items.
Animals and monsters became deadlier but generally received less health, making blocking and dodging more important. Humans and thralls also had reduced health, with threat still varying by tribe. Alpha animals are closer to their base animal type, Champions can appear among tribes and drop Unique items, and world bosses were adjusted for shorter but more lethal fights.
Stamina costs increased. Weapon stamina costs moved from the 3 to 9 range up to 10 to 40. Jumping now costs 8 stamina, and double-jumping adds another 16. Stamina regeneration pauses were reduced to 0.1 seconds, and related server defaults were updated, including StaminaRegenerationTime = 1.75, StaminaOnConsumeRegenPause = 0.1, and StaminaOnExhaustionRegenPause = 0.1. Armor regeneration multipliers were set to 1.0 for light armor, 0.9 for medium armor, and 0.85 for heavy armor across load levels. The gray-out effect for stamina exhaustion was removed.
Weapon tuning included heavier heavy attacks, with damage increases from 5% to 20% depending on weapon type. Shield base durability was halved. Heavy attacks now apply effects such as bleed or sunder except while sprinting. Short swords apply Bleed on heavy attacks, Two-Handed Axes apply Cripple on heavy attacks, and several combo multipliers were changed. One-Handed Axe first heavy attack dropped from 1.5 to 1.2, Katana Special rose from 0.6 to 1, and One-Handed Sword fourth heavy rose from 1.5 to 2. Kicks, Backflips, and Katana Special had reduced combo multiplier stamina costs.
Repair changes renamed Legendary Repair Kits to Grandmaster Repair Kits and Armor Patch Kits to Armor Repair Kits. Repair kit crafting costs doubled, repair kit weight dropped to 0.1, and Legendary plus Unique items can no longer be repaired. Unique and Legendary items gained much higher max durability. Weapon, armor, and tool modification kits no longer reduce max durability, while Prying Kit durability loss dropped from 50% to 30%. Dismantling returns increased. Repair kits now work on all weapon and armor tiers except Unique and Legendary, but reduce max durability by 2.5% to 20% depending on tier. Repairing Grindstone repairs all hotbar items and also reduces their max durability.
Additional balance fixes stopped enemies from breaking stun-lock, reduced excessive Blood Crystal harvesting from dead Golem followers, corrected excess heat and cold resistance on Turanian and Yamatai Epic armors, changed Tower of the Elephant to require at least two people on top before death by stompers, and stopped Heritance from being modified.
