Astroneer: Megatech expands the game around very large construction, automation, and interplanetary logistics. Some additions are locked to the paid DLC, while other megastructures and quality-of-life tools arrive as a free update for every player.
According to the October 29 announcement, Astroneer: Megatech is scheduled to release on November 20. No official price was listed in that announcement. Based on Astroneer's earlier paid expansion, Glitchwalkers, players were told to expect something around the $5 to $10 range.
Megatech does not require a nearly finished save. Its additions can be used from the early stages of a playthrough, including the point where the first base is being established.
The release date trailer gives a quick look at the expansion's large-scale building focus.
The paid DLC centers on three exclusive megastructures: the Orbital Platform, Biodome, and Museum.
The Orbital Platform is a personal space station and the most obvious showcase piece of the DLC. It appears like a space station at first, but it functions as a customizable megastructure built around a central celestial body.
Players can choose the shape at the center of the platform. That decision is permanent, so it is worth picking a form that fits the intended layout before committing. Astroneer rarely punishes ambition, but architecture has receipts.
The Biodome brings automation to alien plant cultivation. It turns planting and harvesting into a controlled system for producing seeds and organic resources.
Only one Biodome can exist per planet. In exchange for that limit, it provides environmental control and supports automated farming actions, making it useful for players who want a steadier resource flow instead of manual crop work.
The Museum is built for displaying discoveries and earning rewards from collections. Players take the role of Curator and work with an eccentric automaton that helps manage exhibits.
Placed discoveries can lead to rewards, making the Museum both a trophy room and a progression tool.
The Megatech Deluxe Edition adds a cosmetic set inspired by colorful transparent tech. It includes:
The free update includes two additional megastructures plus practical tools for everyday exploration and base building.
The Intermodal Terminal acts as the center of an interplanetary trade and shipping network. It has three programmable landing pads and supports automated resource shipping, such as moving materials from Novus to Sylva without manually flying every trip.
It also includes integrated rail stations for direct input and onboard fueling systems. Together, those features make it easier to connect isolated bases into one supply chain.
The Distribution Launcher System, or DLS, starts with a Construction Anchor and grows into a Mega-Printer Platform. Drones build the platform, then the system can launch more anchors around the planet to construct other megastructures.
In short, it is a construction command center for players who enjoy building big and then building even bigger.
The free update also adds smaller tools. The Tether Dropper automatically deploys tethers, which helps with caves and long routes. New Walkways provide safer routes across uneven or awkward terrain.
