ARK: Survival Evolved grew through years of DLC releases, adding new maps, creatures, hazards, items, and systems. Some downloads expand the core survival loop, while others mostly provide fresh places to explore. Choosing what to install depends on whether you want story content, new biomes, boss challenges, or a different style of play.

At the time covered here, ARK: Survival Evolved had 12 DLCs. Five were expansion packs, six were expansion maps, and one was a total conversion that changed an important part of the game experience.

Expansion packs usually add major content while keeping ARK's core structure intact. These DLCs often include new maps, creatures, equipment, mechanics, and story progression.

Scorched Earth drops survivors into a large desert map with new biomes, items, and creatures. Its most memorable additions include tameable dragons and wyverns.
The expansion does not completely reinvent ARK, but it adds a harsher climate and enough new content to make the survival loop feel different. Sand, heat, and flying reptiles are a persuasive combination.

Released on December 12, 2017, Aberration sends players into a damaged and hostile environment shaped by radiation and underground danger.
The map introduces hazards such as earthquakes, gas leaks, and radiation exposure. It also provides tools and items that help players survive those threats. Aberration is a good choice for experienced players who want ARK to push back harder.

Extinction returns the series to Earth, but not a healthy version of it. Players explore a ruined planet filled with corrupted creatures, including threats such as the Corrupted Arthropluera and Corrupted Wyvern.
The setting combines a decimated world with a lush, overgrown metropolis and multiple sites to explore. Its story content focuses on what happened to the planet and gives players plenty to do across long sessions.

ARK: Genesis is a two-part DLC tied to the game's Season Pass. Genesis: Part 1 released on February 25, 2020, while the later Genesis content launched on June 3, 2021.
The Genesis DLCs take players into new worlds and add mission-based content. Like Extinction, they offer hundreds of hours of activities and a layered story that encourages repeat play.

Expansion maps usually focus on exploration. They add new places, creatures, resources, and biomes without functioning like full paid expansion packs. These ARK map DLCs are free to download.

The Center is almost twice the size of The Island. It is known for hand-drawn topography, dramatic views, and a mix of familiar biomes with new exploration spaces.
Players can travel through a large underground cave system, explore floating islands, and find many potential base locations. It is a strong pick for anyone who wants a bigger map without learning an entirely different ruleset.

Ragnarok blends elements from The Island and Scorched Earth, then adds new biomes and extreme weather conditions.
It does not add as much completely new content as some expansions, but it remains valuable because players can find loot and fight certain enemies from The Island and Scorched Earth without transferring between those maps.

Valguero adds new biomes, multiple cave systems, and extra exploration time. It is also known as the first expansion map to feature a roaming boss, the Broodmother.
The map is especially appealing to players who want to challenge three hard-hitting bosses. Anyone unsure about their gear or combat readiness may want to start with a less punishing map first.

Crystal Isles is home to the Crystal Wyvern, a tameable creature that can help players gain a large amount of XP. The map also stands out visually, with multiple regions that feel distinct from one another.
Players can even build bases in the tree canopy, making it a good choice for those who value scenery as much as survival efficiency.

Lost Island is a large map with several biomes, dense flora, dinosaurs, and new challenges. It also includes a Wyvern Trench where multiple wyvern types can be found.
This DLC is a good fit for players who want something new while keeping the overall ARK experience familiar.

Fjordur is built around Norse mythology. Players can explore realms inspired by Asgard, Vanaheim, and Jotuheim, along with Norse-themed enemies such as Fenrir.
For players who like mythology layered into survival exploration, Fjordur offers one of the most distinct free map themes.

Primitive+ is a free official ARK DLC and total conversion. Compared with the other DLCs, it adds less overall value, but it does change many tools so they behave more like real-world counterparts.
It is best suited for players who want a more grounded crafting and survival feel rather than another large map or creature-focused expansion.
