After more than three years without a new ARK: Survival Evolved DLC release, ARK: Aquatica arrived on the schedule with a focus on underwater exploration, new creatures, fresh engrams, and a bit of community drama floating nearby.

ARK: Aquatica Release Date and Price

ARK: Aquatica releases on July 15. Its launch price is $8.99 US for the first two weeks, then it increases to $14.99 US. That puts it on the cheaper side compared to some ARK: Survival Evolved DLC, while the developer announcement still promises a substantial set of additions.

A Mostly Underwater Map

The main feature is deep-sea exploration. Snail Games described ARK: Aquatica as a non-canonical side story DLC map, meaning it expands the experience without sitting directly in the main canon.

The map includes five underwater biomes, and roughly 95% of the new playable areas are submerged. Players can expect new ruins, plants, animals, environmental hazards, and threats spread across those ocean regions.

Exploration also comes with survival pressure, very literally. The DLC includes increasing water pressure, limited light, underwater currents, and the constant need to manage oxygen. Ignore that last part and the ocean will handle your retirement paperwork.

New Creatures and Engrams

ARK: Aquatica adds 21 new aquatic creatures. Details on most of them were still limited, but two names had been confirmed:

  • Mudpuppy
  • Monodon

The rest of the aquatic roster was left for players to discover. Given the underwater theme, it is reasonable to expect that different creatures will favor different ocean regions, making full collection and taming a longer-term goal.

The DLC also adds 74 new Engrams. Specifics were limited here as well, though some were described as helping players adapt land creatures for water, create air pockets, and survive the new aquatic environments. The lack of full detail may work in the DLC's favor, since discovery is a large part of ARK's appeal.

AI Trailer Controversy

Not every part of the ARK: Aquatica rollout was received positively. In March 2025, a teaser trailer for the expansion was released and later removed from YouTube after heavy criticism over its use of AI-generated content.

The backlash was strong enough that later announcements were met with skepticism in community spaces such as Reddit. After the July 15 release date was announced, one user described it as the most anticipated delay in the franchise.

Even with that controversy, many players remained interested in seeing what the DLC actually delivers. Between the undersea biomes, new creatures, and survival systems, ARK: Aquatica still offers a clear reason for players to dive back in.
