Aloft often expects players to figure things out through exploration, which is charming until a recipe needs Wool Cloth and the game gives only a polite shrug. This material is useful for healing items, sails, furniture, and decoration, but getting it requires several steps.

To craft Wool Cloth in Aloft, players need a sheep, Shears, Wool, and a Loom. The process can take time because some recipes must be found through exploration before the full production chain is available.

Sheep can be found on floating islands. One can usually be located on an island east of the starting archipelago. After finding one, hold E by default to send the animal to your home island.
If the animal is a lamb, it will not produce Wool right away. Only adult sheep can be sheared, so younger animals must grow first.

A sheep needs hay to stay happy. A trough helps if the recipe is already unlocked, since it lets the animal keep eating even while the player is away from the home island.
This part matters because sheep only produce Wool when they are happy. Ignoring the sheep and expecting fabric later is not a strong business model.

While waiting for Wool production, gather the materials for Shears. The recipe requires:
Carved Wood can be crafted from:

Once the sheep is an adult and producing Wool, use the Shears on it. This gives 1x Wool. Afterward, keep the sheep fed and wait for it to produce Wool again.

The Loom recipe is found while exploring. Follow the question marks on the map, especially around the outer ring of the world map, until the recipe is discovered.
After unlocking it, craft the Loom at your home island with:
Players on an Aloft multiplayer server hosted through HolyHosting can also split the search with friends, which makes the recipe hunt less like arguing with a cloud.

Interact with the Loom and place 1x Wool inside. Each unit of Wool produces 3x Wool Cloth.

Wool Cloth is mainly a crafting ingredient. It is used in the following recipes:
