Squad te permite caer en una de una docena de fuerzas armadas, cada una con su propia lista de kits, flota de vehículos y peculiaridades en el campo de batalla. Elegir el grupo correcto es la mitad de la pelea. Este desglose recorre cada facción jugable, lo que aporta a una partida y el loadout exacto que desbloquea cada rol.

Cada facción en Squad está modelada sobre un ejército real, con algunas excepciones para coaliciones o grupos compuestos. Detrás de la alineación se ubican tres categorías paraguas: BLUFOR, REDFOR e Independent. La categoría decide qué fuerzas se enfrentan en los matchups estándar, y cada ejército individual tiene fortalezas claras y aristas duras.

No hay dos facciones que se jueguen igual. La PLA despliega vehículos ágiles, pero entrega a sus fusileros armas que algunos jugadores encuentran poco satisfactorias. Canadá tiene el único kit de Sniper en la rama Specialist, pero su parque de tanques es mediocre. Los Insurgents lucen andrajosos sobre el papel, pero se mezclan en los mapas de estilo civil de una forma que los ejércitos convencionales no pueden. Esos compromisos importan, sobre todo en partidas largas donde la logística y el blindaje dirigen el resultado.
Una leyenda rápida antes de ir rol por rol. Para mantener los loadouts legibles, las etiquetas de cada bullet están acortadas: Primary es el arma larga, Sidearm es el arma enfundada más cualquier hoja, Frags cubre explosivos y cargas de cohetes, Smoke lista granadas de humo y bengalas marcadoras, Med lista vendajes y kits médicos, y Gear cubre binoculares, herramientas, ammo bags y utilidades de campo.

La Australian Defence Force se sumó al roster como DLC oficial en la update 2.15. Antes de eso, los australianos solo existían como mod de la comunidad. En el juego, la facción representa al verdadero Ejército, Marina y Fuerza Aérea australianos como un despliegue unificado.
La mayoría de los kits usa el EF88 Bullpup, un fusil de asalto estable con manejo consistente y opciones decentes de óptica. Combinado con las miras Specter y ET552 que la facción desbloquea en sus especialistas, la ADF tiende a recompensar a quienes ya confían en su puntería y en su lectura del mapa. Los reclutas nuevos probablemente sentirán fricción aquí. Coordinación y disciplina de disparo no son opcionales con esta selección, ya que los australianos no disfrutan de la misma profundidad de blindaje que otros grupos BLUFOR aportan.

Agregadas en la Alpha 11.0, las British Armed Forces son el sustituto en el juego del ejército británico del mismo nombre. Su fortaleza estrella es el cristal: las opciones SUSAT, LDS y ACOG le dan a los británicos posiblemente la biblioteca de ópticas más limpia del juego, lo que se traduce en precisión a distancia en la mayoría de los kits. El precio es el blindaje. Las opciones de IFV y tanque británicas se ubican en el medio del pelotón en vez de en la cima, así que los enfrentamientos tienden a ganarse por posicionamiento de infantería y no por peleas con casco a casco.

Canadá llegó como facción DLC gratuita en la Alpha 15.3. Su rasgo más distintivo es la rama Specialist: sigue siendo la única fuerza del juego con un verdadero kit de Sniper en esa categoría, que opera el bolt-action C14 Timberwolf con ocho mags. Súmale una selección generosa de visores de largo alcance y obtienes una facción que castiga a los oponentes que piensan que la cobertura es una sugerencia.
El blindaje es el punto blando. El Leopard 2A6M es un tanque de batalla principal competente, pero se siente rígido al lado del M1A2 o el T-72B3, y le exige al artillero ser más afilado. La buena noticia es la profundidad. La flota de vehículos canadiense es más amplia que la de los australianos o la de los británicos, así que los comandantes de logística tienen más perillas que girar.

El US Army es la primera facción convencional de Squad y una de las pocas selecciones donde es genuinamente difícil señalar una sola debilidad. La salida ofensiva es alta, las opciones defensivas son profundas, y la lista de kits se lee como una checklist de lo que un equipo combinado-armas moderno quiere. La única queja menor es que los APC M1126 vienen con M2 en vez de cañones automáticos, así que las corridas de transporte se sienten ligeramente menos feroces que sus equivalentes en algunas selecciones REDFOR. Esa es la clase de nitpick que sacas cuando no hay mucho más de qué quejarse.

Los Marines son la séptima facción convencional de Squad. Comparten paternidad con el US Army sobre el papel, pero divergen en sensación una vez que entras a la partida. La PLA cayó en Squad con la update 4.0, convirtiéndose en la décima facción jugable y la octava convencional. El activo destacado es la flota. Los vehículos de la PLA son ágiles y flexibles, lo que los hace excelentes para empujes de pegar y correr y reposicionamientos rápidos cuando un flanco colapsa.
El otro lado se ubica en los racks de rifles. La familia QBZ95-1 maneja bien, pero un buen segmento de la playerbase encuentra el perfil de retroceso y las opciones de óptica menos satisfactorios que lo que BLUFOR trae a la misma pelea. La comunicación fuerte de squad y el uso inteligente de vehículos taparán la mayoría de esas preocupaciones.

Tras la PLA en la update 4.0, el Navy Marine Corps fue añadido en la update 5.0. Eso lo hace la 11.ª facción jugable de Squad y la 9.ª convencional.
Los Navy Marines se inclinan ligeros. Su infantería usa rifles de asalto, carabinas y pistolas en lugar de pegadores pesados, lo que significa que las disputas a corto y medio rango son su zona cómoda. Para jugar bien esta facción tienes que cerrar la distancia, lo cual es más fácil decirlo que hacerlo en mapas con terreno abierto extenso. La recompensa son empujes rápidos y móviles que toman a los defensores atrincherados con el pie equivocado.

Las Irregular Militia Forces son la segunda facción no convencional de Squad, ubicada justo después de los Insurgents. Mezclan kit oriental y occidental peleando en teatros de estilo europeo. El arsenal no se concentra alrededor de una sola plataforma: puedes armar un kit con rifles de asalto, carabinas, subfusiles, ametralladoras ligeras o pistolas dependiendo del rol que cubras.
Ese menú amplio es un arma de doble filo. Si dispersas a la infantería, la militia tiene problemas para proyectar fuego sostenido. Si la apilas en empujes de choque, pega por encima de su peso. En cuanto a vehículos, la facción empaca algunas de las plataformas ligeras más maniobrables del juego, incluyendo unas pocas que montan múltiples sistemas de lanzamiento de cohetes, lo cual es exactamente tan divertido como suena.

Elegir una facción en Squad tiene menos que ver con cuál es la más fuerte y más con cuál encaja con la forma en que tú y tu squad ya juegan. La infantería coordinada con puntería firme va a sacarle más a la ADF o a los Marines que un equipo armado al azar. Las estrategias pesadas en vehículos favorecen a la PLA o a los canadienses, los entusiastas de las ópticas gravitan hacia los británicos, y los jugadores que quieren máximo caos pueden apoyarse en los Insurgents o en las Irregular Militia. Pasa unas cuantas rondas con cada una y las diferencias se vuelven memoria muscular más rápido de lo que las listas de loadouts hacen parecer.
Cualquiera sea la bandera que levantes en la próxima partida, los kits de arriba son el playbook. Úsalos para planear tu loadout antes de que arranque la ronda, así no andas hurgando en el menú mientras todos los demás ya están en el rally point.
