Whether you want to use cheats on your dedicated CS2 server or customize your client settings, you’ll need to use the developer console to do so.

This process involves enabling the console and entering specific commands to achieve your desired results. Once you’ve done this, you’ll have greater control over your server or private match — for example, you can change the warm-up time or enable flying using console commands.

Unfortunately, this feature isn’t enabled by default, which can be confusing for newcomers to the Counter-Strike 2 scene. That’s why we’ve created this HolyHosting guide to show you how to open the console in CS2 and start using commands.

How to Enable the Console in CS2

This process only takes a few moments, as everything is done through the in-game settings. Follow the steps below when you’re ready to begin:

  1. Launch CS2 and click the Settings icon in the upper-left corner.

  2. Next, go to the Game category and find the option “Enable Developer Console.”

3. Once you find it, change the option from “No” to “Yes” in the dropdown menu.

  1. Confirm that the console opens by pressing the Tilde (~) key on your keyboard.

How to Use Console Commands on a CS2 Server

Using commands in CS2 is straightforward once the developer console is enabled. All you need to do is type a command into the text box and press Enter. However, keep in mind that some commands require you to be in a match or on a server with cheats enabled. This depends on what you’re trying to do, so keep that in mind as you follow the steps below.

  1. While playing CS2, open the console by pressing the Tilde (~) key on your keyboard.

  2. Then, type and press Enter for any command you want — for example:

    cl_showfps 1

  3. If successful, you’ll notice the results either in-game or elsewhere, depending on the command you entered.

CS2 Developer Console — FAQ (Summary)

Where can I find the Developer Console? Go to Settings → Game, and you’ll see the option near the top. This is where you can enable or disable the console in CS2.

Why can’t I open the console? By default, the console opens with the Tilde (~) key. You can change this in Settings → Keyboard/Mouse → UI Keys. If you’ve remapped it before, make sure it’s set correctly.

What kinds of commands are available? There are many — most appear as you start typing in the console. Some are restricted to dedicated servers, so you might not see them all.

Is using commands considered cheating? Some commands are cheats, while others aren’t. For example, wallhacks work only in private games or servers. Others simply adjust your client — like crosshair settings or keybinds.
