Playing on your 7 Days To Die server can be a lot of fun, but you might miss out on your single-player or custom worlds. Fortunately, the game and server design allow you to upload an existing save to your 7D2D server. This is extremely useful if you want to bring custom or solo worlds to your server. However, the process itself can be tricky and frustrating due to the technical work involved. Because of this, Holy Hosting will guide you through locating your saves, preparing them, uploading the files, and configuring the server so you can enjoy your existing world with friends.

Preparing Local Saves
You will need to navigate to the game’s local directory to find the files, which can be done by pressing the Windows key + R at the same time.
After opening the Run program, type %appdata% and click OK.
Find the 7DaysToDie folder and open it, then go into Saves.
Locate your desired world, then right-click on it and compress the folder into a ZIP file.
Note: You can use 7zip or WinRAR for the compression process. Once completed, keep that window open or move the newly created file to an easily accessible location.
Organizing Files
The variety of save files for your 7 Days To Die world is important, as it will dictate the upload operations for the map.
The name of the main folder you compressed is the GameWorld value within the game’s design. Additionally, the name of the subfolder inside the main folder is the GameName value. In our example, we have the main folder "PREGEN8k" with "HolyTest" as the subfolder. Take note of your save folder names for later activation on your game server.
Uploading an Existing World
Go to your Holy server panel and turn off the server.
Then, click the FTP File Access button in the top-left corner, log in with your password, and navigate to the Saves folder.
In the top-left corner, click Upload and drag your compressed world file into the "Drop files here to upload" field.
Note: If the file gets stuck, use FileZilla to upload it to the same directory.
Once the upload is complete, return to the Saves folder in the FTP panel and select the ZIP file.
In the top-right corner, click Unzip and in the next window click Submit. Wait for all files to extract, which should show a "Done, returned Ok" message at the bottom of the console. Once you see that, you’re finished!
Activating an Uploaded Map
Go to the server panel and near the top-left, click Config Files.
Locate and click the option Main 7 Days To Die Configuration, which is the file serverconfig_holy.xml.
Within that file, find the GameWorld setting and change the value to match the name of the save folder you uploaded.
Then, find the GameName option and edit its value to match the name of the subfolder inside the main world folder.
Note: Our example uses the main folder "PREGEN8k" with "HolyTest" as the subfolder inside it, so the corresponding values in the file reflect this.
Once you’ve made these changes, click Save at the top and restart your server from the server panel. The server will load your world!
Conclusion
Uploading your existing world to your 7 Days to Die server allows you to share custom or solo worlds with other players online. Although the process is a bit long, it’s worth it when you start playing with others on your map. Just remember to keep track of your save folder names so you don’t lose your world during upload. If everything goes well, you should see your world in-game on the server without any data loss. We hope this guide has helped you understand the preparation and steps to get your existing save onto a 7D2D server.
