How to Join a Rust Server

Rust is a game entirely about surviving in a world where everything is against you. Whether it’s facing the harsh environment, animals that hunt you, or even other players, you must be willing to do whatever it takes to live another day. Being a fully multiplayer experience, joining a server in Rust is essential. While there are many official servers available, having control and joining your own server is often much more enjoyable. With HolyHosting, setting up and joining a Rust server is simple — here’s how to get started.

Setting Up the Server Version

If you’re installing Rust on an existing server, we highly recommend backing up all your files beforehand using FTP File Access. Once you’re ready, follow these steps:

  1. Access your HolyHosting server panel and stop the server.

  2. Scroll down to the JAR File section, then open the dropdown menu.

  3. Find Rust and select Rust Panel.

  4. When prompted, click Change Version, generate a new world when asked, then restart the server.

The server will now begin to start up and generate a new Rust world. Note that this process can take a few minutes, especially during the first launch.

Connecting Through the Console

  1. While on your HolyHosting server panel, scroll down to the IP Address:Port section.

  2. Copy the client.connect IP from the panel.

  3. Launch Rust through Steam.

  4. In the main menu, press F1, paste the text you copied, and press Enter.

Connecting Through the Server Browser

  1. Open your Rust game client.

  2. Once it’s launched, click Play Game.

  3. Choose the section of the list depending on your server type:

    • Community: Vanilla Rust servers.

    • Modded: Rust servers with Oxide installed.

    • Favorites: Servers you’ve marked as favorites.

    • History: Servers you’ve joined previously.

  4. Use the search bar to locate your desired server.

  5. Click Join Server.

Connecting Through Steam Servers

  1. Open your Steam client and go to View > Servers at the top.

  2. Go to the Favorites tab and click Add a Server.

  3. Enter your server’s IP and click Add this address to favorites.

  4. Refresh the page, select the server, and click Connect.
