How to check if a mod is client-side or server-side

Minecraft·April 2, 2026·8 min read

Hello! In the following guide we will explain how to check if the mod you downloaded is designed for client, server, or both. This is very easy thanks to a tool we have. Mod Side Checker The first thing we need to do is go to the following link: https://modchecker.holy.gg/ Here, we can see a small classification of each environment for which a mod is made.

To use it, simply upload the .jar file of the mod using the button shown in the image. Once we upload the desired mod, we click on verify!

When the mod finishes uploading, a window similar to the one in the image will appear showing the mod name, URL, and the side it is made for. In this case, it is client-side, which means uploading it to the server folder will cause errors and incompatibilities.

For example, if we upload a mod that says "server-side" it means it only goes in the server folder and the user does not need to download and install it in their .Minecraft.

Done! That is how easy it is to check where you can use your mods, remember that there are mods for both sides, client and server.
