Tick Speed in Minecraft
Minecraft offers an infinite world full of activities, but some players seek to speed up their experience. The tick speed allows this, as it controls processes like crop growth, mob spawning, and redstone functionality. By increasing it, everything happens faster, improving gameplay in single-player worlds or servers. Holy Hosting explains in its guide how to easily change this setting.
Minecraft Ticks
The ticks are the unit of time in Minecraft and control aspects like tree growth, mob spawning, redstone, and physics. Without them, the game would not function. The default speed is 3 in Java and 1 in Bedrock. When modifying them, care must be taken, as excessive values can cause errors. If you are looking to improve performance, Holy Hosting recommends checking their server optimization guide.
Changing the Tick Speed

Before modifying the tick speed, you must enable cheats or be an operator, as this change alters the natural behavior of the game. It is important not to use excessive values (like 99999) and to increase the speed gradually to find the ideal point. Improperly adjusting this option can cause serious problems in your world or server.
Java Edition
In Minecraft Java Edition, changing the tick speed is straightforward, although it requires having cheats enabled. If you did not enable them when creating the world, you can do so later or edit the world files with NBTEditor. Once enabled, you will be able to use a specific command to adjust the tick speed and modify the game's pace.
Single Player
Open Minecraft and navigate to your desired world from the main menu.

Make sure to enable cheats if you have not already, as it is necessary for this process.
Once in-game, type /gamerule randomTickSpeed [value] in the chat.

Do this until you are satisfied with the tick speed of your single-player world.
Multiplayer
Head to your Holy Hosting server panel and become an operator if you are not already.
Then, join your Minecraft server and run the command /gamerule randomTickSpeed [value] in the chat.

Optional: Run this command with a slash in the Console area of your panel.
Continue doing this until you are satisfied with the tick speed of your world.
Bedrock Edition
Unlike Java Edition, Bedrock allows you to easily enable cheats in a single-player world without much effort. However, the server requires you to manually enable this feature from our easy-to-use panel. Once you have done this, the same command as before will be used to change the tick speed in Minecraft. Follow one of the sections below to get started with this process.
Single Player
Launch Minecraft and enter your world, then make sure Cheats are enabled.

Note: This is done near the bottom of the World category in Settings.
Then, change the Random Tick Speed value to whatever you want.

Optional: Run the command /gamerule randomTickSpeed [value] instead.
Repeat this process until you are satisfied with the tick speed of your world.
Multiplayer
Head to your Holy Hosting server panel, then click on Configure Files near the top left.

Click on Bedrock Server Settings, then set Allow Cheats to Enabled.

Proceed to press the Save button at the bottom and Restart now when prompted.
Then, become an operator on the server and join with your account.
Continue typing and running /gamerule randomTickSpeed [value] in the chat.

Keep doing this until you are happy with the results.
Uses of Tick Speed
The tick speed speeds up processes in Minecraft, such as crop growth and creature spawning. It is especially useful for farming, as it drastically reduces waiting time. It can also be applied to redstone machines, allowing you to create faster and more complex mechanisms.
For example, clocks and repeaters become more precise to help with trap functionality. There are many other activities that can be performed with an increase in tick speed, so start experimenting with it.
Common Issues
Unable to Change the Tick Speed
If you cannot change the tick speed, verify that cheats are enabled or that you have operator permissions on multiplayer servers. Then, re-run the command making sure to type "randomTickSpeed" correctly (in Bedrock, capitalization does not matter). If the error persists, check the command syntax and your world or server permissions again.
My Server Is Crashing
If your server crashes after changing the tick speed, the value is probably too high or there are too many active processes. The ideal approach is to increase it gradually to avoid overloads. If the server does not start, you can restore a backup from the panel or manually edit the value with NBTEditor after downloading the world. If you need help, the Holy Hosting Support team can assist you.
The World Is Lagging
If your world starts to lag after increasing the tick speed, reduce it or return to the default values to improve performance. You can also optimize the world by limiting events and activities, such as disabling redstone machines, reducing render distance, or removing farms. If the problem persists, the best approach is to revert all changes made to the tick speed. Conclusion
