Installing and Using Modrinth for Minecraft
Setting up mods or modpacks in Minecraft can be tedious, especially for beginners. Luckily, several third-party launchers make this process easier — one of the most popular being Modrinth. This platform is a great alternative to CurseForge thanks to its simplicity and user-friendly design.
With Modrinth, you can create custom profiles with specific mods, quickly install modpacks to play with friends, and even import existing profiles from other launchers for convenience.
Since Modrinth works a bit differently from other apps, it can be confusing at first. That’s why we’ve created this Holy Hosting guide to show you how to install and use Modrinth for Minecraft effectively.
Download Modrinth
Go to the Modrinth App page and click Download for your operating system.

Save the file somewhere easily accessible on your computer, then open it.
After confirming the setup, click Install (or a similar option) to complete the installation.

Once the installation is complete, launch the application to start using Modrinth.
Getting Started
After installing the Modrinth app, click Get Started when prompted. Log in using your Microsoft email linked to your Minecraft account and complete any additional setup steps. Once done, you can start installing modpacks, creating custom mod profiles, or importing instances from other launchers. Whether you want to play Dawncraft with friends or test out Apotheosis, there are plenty of options. When you’re ready to learn how to use Modrinth, check out the sections below.
Installing Modpacks
The most popular feature of the Modrinth app is modpack installation, which automatically sets up all the required mods for Minecraft. Whether you use Forge, Fabric, or Quilt, you can find compatible modpacks for each. Follow these steps to get started:
In the Modrinth app, click the Search button on the left sidebar.
Use the Filter options to narrow down the modpacks you want.

Note: You can also use the Search Modpacks field if you already have one in mind.
Once you’ve found the desired modpack, click the Install button in the bottom-right corner.

Wait for the download to finish, then go to your Library and click Play on it.
Create Custom Profiles
Instead of using pre-made modpacks, you can create your own with any mods you want through custom profiles or instances. These are fully customizable — from the loader type to the Minecraft version you prefer. Keep in mind that you’ll need to manually search for and add mods to this profile after creating it, which is easy to do in the Modrinth app. You can also install datapacks, shaders, and resource packs this way. Follow the steps below to get started:
In the Modrinth app, click the Plus (+) button near the bottom-left corner.
Fill out the Name, Loader, and Game Version fields as needed.

Once you’re done, click Create in the bottom-right corner.

Wait for all the required files to finish downloading, then open your profile.
Next, click Add Content to start installing mods or other add-ons to your new instance.

Note: Use the Filter options to precisely find mods, datapacks, etc., for your profile.
Import Profiles
If you’ve used other launchers like ATLauncher or CurseForge for modded Minecraft, you can import your existing profiles into Modrinth. This is helpful if you or others have already set up a custom instance, saving you from repeating the process. Follow these steps:
Click the Plus (+) icon near the bottom-left corner of the Modrinth app.
In the dialog box, near the top-left, select Import From Launcher.

Next, select your desired launcher from the list.
Locate or enter the directory path for the “Instances” subfolder in the text box.

Note: Do not include the “...\Instances” part in the path, as it is a subfolder.
Click the Refresh button, then check your desired profile from the list.

Repeat this for all the instances you want, then click Import at the bottom to transfer them.
Modrinth App Settings
Sometimes you may need to adjust the Modrinth app settings for your setup. Options like allocating more memory or changing the game resolution can help customize and optimize your gameplay experience. Access these settings by clicking the Settings icon in the bottom-left corner of the app.
